Air defence systems built for missiles and aircraft cost far more per shot than the drones they intercept, leaving NATO states, energy operators and civil defence agencies without a cost-effective answer. The gap is widening as production of low-cost attack drones outpaces the supply of affordable interceptors. Aerlijn addresses this challenge with the Nightmare V3, a counter-UAS interceptor developed and produced in the Netherlands. The interceptor reaches speeds of 280 to 300 km/h, has a maximum flight range of 20 km and a tactical radius of around 10 km, and can be launched by a single operator within seconds without a rail or launcher. Guidance runs in manual or automatic machine-vision mode. On 14 October 2025 the system recorded a confirmed interception of a Shahed 136 near Vysokopillya, Ukraine, at a distance of 9.2 km. Ten units have since completed parallel operational testing, confirming a repeatable production process.
